City of Alexandria Offers Tax Forms on the Web

Alexandria has made the City’s business personal property tax return forms available on the City website for use by local businesses. The forms, to be filed with the City on or before May 1, are available on the web as Adobe Acrobat documents and can be downloaded at ci.alexandria.va.us/city/formspg.html. A link to the forms is also available through the rolling banner on the City’s homepage, ci.alexandria.va.us.

The web-based form was made available for the first time this year in an attempt to make accessing the forms and filing the returns more convenient for local businesses.

The City uses the information provided on the returns to assess the businesses personal property tax, which is due on October 5 of each year. For those businesses that do not file their business personal property tax return by the May 1 due date, a ten percent late filing penalty will be added to the tax bill.

Business personal property taxes are one of the City’s major sources of revenue and constituted$14 million of the City’s general revenue for fiscal year 2001. The City recently mailed approximately 8,000 business personal property tax return forms to businesses with property in the City.
