Alexandria Police Crack Down on Traffic Violations on West Glebe Road,
Stepped Up Enforcement Prompted by Accidents, Dangerous Driving

For the next two weeks, Alexandria police will be heavily enforcing traffic violations on West Glebe Road. Increased enforcement began more than a week ago following a noticeable pattern of speeding and accidents. Police will review the results at the end of two weeks and may extend the stepped up enforcement if necessary.

West Glebe Road, which runs from the Arlington County line to Commonwealth Avenue, is heavily traveled by both motorists and pedestrians. Enforcement by members of the Motorcycle Unit and all three patrol shifts will target traffic offenders between Mount Vernon Avenue and Valley Drive.

From January 1, 2000, through February 7, 2002, patrol officers have responded to 165 accidents (94 of which involved personal injury or serious property damage), made 10 arrests for DWI, and initiated 114 traffic stops for other activity along West Glebe Road.

For additional details or to set up an interview with Sergeant Paul Story, the traffic enforcement supervisor, please contact the Public Information Office at (703) 838-4636.
