Alexandria Police Make Arrest in One Purse Snatching Case,
Investigation Continues into Robberies of Elderly

Alexandria police have arrested a suspect for one of the four purse snatchings that have occurred in recent weeks. The suspect, Jenice Long, is a 19-year-old female of no fixed address. She was charged this morning with one count of Robbery for the January 23 incident which left a 76-year-old woman injured near the Braddock Road Metro station. Detectives learned of Long’s involvement after receiving a tip from a citizen who had seen news reports. Long is being held without bond at the Alexandria jail.

Police now believe that this case was unrelated to other recent robberies and that another suspect is responsible for those offenses. That suspect is described as a black male, 18 to 30 years old, 5-feet 9-inches to 5-feet 11-inches tall and weighing 190 to 200 pounds.

Police continue to seek the identity of this suspect and have increased police presence in the Old Town and Del Ray neighborhoods where these street robberies occurred.

Anyone with information about any of these cases is asked to call the Criminal Investigations Sections at (703) 838-4711.
