Alexandria Police Investigate a Critical Motor Vehicle Accident

The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a serious motor vehicle accident which occurred earlier today, at approximately 1:00 p.m.

The victim, Thomas Harras, a 66-year-old male City resident, was crossing the service road in the 5200 block of Duke Street, when he was struck by a van. The motorist, a 25-year-old non-City resident, was driving a 1998 Chevrolet van traveling westbound on the service road when he struck the victim as he crossed the street. The victim, who sustained head trauma as a result of the accident, was initially transported to the Inova Alexandria Hospital where he was evaluated and treated by medical staff. A short time later, the victim was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

The Accident reconstruction Team responded to the scene and conducted their investigation. No charges have been placed against the driver of the Chevrolet van.
