Police Release Security Photos, Seek Identity of Bank Robber

Detectives with the Alexandria Police Department are releasing photos of a bank robbery suspect in an attempt to identify the unknown man.

The suspect entered the BB&T branch at 1421 Prince Street in Alexandria yesterday just after 9 a.m. He approached the teller counter, implied that he had a weapon and demanded money. The employee complied and the suspect then fled from the bank with an undisclosed amount of money. No one was injured.

The suspect is described as a black male, unshaven, in his mid-twenties and approximately five-feet six-inches tall. He was last seen wearing light-colored baggy pants, a long-sleeved blue shirt and a baseball cap with a New York Yankees logo.

The suspect’s description matches the basic physical description of the man who robbed the Bank of America at 600 North Washington Street on December 22. Police are investigating the possibility that both bank robberies are related.

Anyone with information about the suspect’s identity is asked to call the Criminal Investigations Section of the Alexandria Police at (703) 838-4711 or Alexandria Crimesolvers at (703) 838-4858. A reward of up to $1,000 is available for information that leads to the suspect’s arrest or indictment.

Last year Alexandria detectives investigated nine bank robberies, and the Bank of America robbery remains the only case unsolved from 2001.
