MEDIA ADVISORY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JANUARY 14, 2002
Police Arrest Alexandria Man for Burglaries in Parkfairfax

On Friday, January 11, Alexandria police charged Cesar E. Bernuy, a 38-year-old Alexandria man, with two counts of Statutory Burglary. Both offenses happened in the Parkfairfax community, where more than 40 residential break-ins have occurred since August of 2000.

On Thursday, December 20, 2001, a patrol officer stopped Bernuy, a resident of 1225 Martha Custis Drive, after a citizen reported seeing a suspicious person in the 3400 block of Martha Custis Drive.

Through further investigation, police identified Bernuy as the suspect responsible for the April 9, 2001, burglary in the 3700 block of Valley Drive, and the September 17, 2001, burglary in the 3700 block of Holmes Lane. Bernuy, a construction worker, is being held without bond at the Alexandria jail.

Police credit the citizen caller and the Parkfairfax community for their vigilance in reporting suspicious activity.

Detectives are investigating the possibility that the Parkfairfax break-ins may be related. Because of the need to interview additional witnesses in the on-going investigation, a photo of Bernuy is not being released at this time.
