Regular Parking Meter and City Parking Garage and Lot Fees Resume

With the holiday season over, the City of Alexandria has announced the resumption of regular parking meter fees, as well as regular public garage and lot fees as of Jan. 2, 2002. “The City was pleased to be able to provide free parking on Saturdays and Sundays, as well as after 5 p.m. on weekdays during the holiday season,” stated City Manager Philip Sunderland.

The free parking was aimed at encouraging residents in the Washington, D.C. area to shop, dine and visit Alexandria and thereby assist Alexandria businesses.

The regular parking meter hours that will resume on Jan. 2, 2002 are:
Monday through Saturday
East of Washington Street 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Washington Street to Patrick Street 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Patrick Street to Commonwealth Avenue 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday remains a free day

For City-owned parking garages and parking lots, hourly charges will resume on Jan. 2, 2002 after 5 p.m. on weekdays and on Saturdays and Sundays, with the exception of the Market Square Garage during the Saturday Farmer’s Market (2 a.m. to 11 a.m.) when parking will remain free.
