Alexandria Police Identify Suspect in ATM Robberies;
Man Under Arrest in Prince William County

Alexandria detectives have identified the suspect wanted for a series of attempted robberies at ATMs earlier this month. Jonathon Andrew Rector, a 28-year-old man of no fixed address, was arrested on Wednesday, December 19, in Staunton, Virginia, on unrelated charges.

Alexandria police have filed a detainer in Prince William after obtaining a warrant that charges Rector with Robbery for the December 8 attempt at the Provident bank in the 200 block of South Van Dorn Street. Additional charges are pending for the December 8 attempt at the Burke & Herbert bank in the 2800 block of Duke Street and the December 9 attempt at the First Union bank in the 300 block of North Washington Street.

Rector, now being held in the Prince William County jail, is also facing charges in Fairfax and Montgomery counties.

Two weeks ago, Alexandria police released a photo from an ATM security video to the media. Rector was identified after a viewer recognized the suspect’s photo on a television newscast.
