The City of Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities is seeking input from residents for the design of a new three-acre dog park at Potomac Yard. Citizens who have ideas on how a dog park should be designed are invited to meet with the architects from Crescent Developers on Thursday, Dec. 13, at 7 pm. The meeting will be held at the Lee Center, 1108 Jefferson St. This meeting is an opportunity for everyone who uses dog parks to be part of process for designing Alexandria’s largest fenced dog park.

Dog parks, or “community canine areas” are typically fenced areas in parks that provide safe recreational opportunities for dog owners and their pets, including the opportunity for dogs to run freely off-leash in the designated areas. Dog parks are popular gathering places and have been in strong demand around the region where dog ownership is common and leash laws are in place. “We want to ensure that the community as a whole, including those who do not own dogs, can benefit from the presence of the dog park,” said Sandra Whitmore, Director of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities.
