ALEXANDRIA CELEBRATES RECYCLES DAY The City of Alexandria will celebrate America Recycles Day on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001 with Robbie, the Recycling Squirrel and a variety of community events. This year’s theme, “America Recycles Day, a Great Time to Renew our Commitment to Recycling,” will help promote the need to reduce, reuse and recycle in Alexandria. On Nov. 15, Robbie will encourage recycling at businesses and residences along King Street when he joins the City’s Downtown Maintenance Managers as they make their rounds. Robbie will distribute candy and pledge cards to encourage citizens to reaffirm their commitment to recycling. Pledge cards are available in the Office of Recycling or the Information Desk at City Hall. Those who complete a pledge card before Nov. 15 will behttp://www.americarecyclesday.org eligible to win a prize. A recycled-content prize will be awarded to the City’s recycling winner at 1 p.m. on Market Square. The winners name will be drawn by Alexandria Mayor Kerry J. Donley and Robbie, the Recycling Squirrel. The public is invited to attend. In addition to the prize drawing, the City’s best recyclers will be invited to the Nov. 13 City Council meeting where they will be honored by the Mayor, City Council and Robbie, the Recycling Squirrel. City crews have been judging recycling bins along their routes looking for quality and quantity of recyclables placed at the curb. Residents with the best-prepared recycling bins will be notified if they are winners..
