CITY OF ALEXANDRIA EXTENDS FREE PARKING
THROUGH JANUARY 1, 2002

Extended by popular demand, and to encourage residents and visitors to shop and dine in Alexandria, limited free parking will continue through January 1, 2002. Parking at City parking meters, City garages and City parking lots will be free after 5 p.m. on weekdays and all day on Saturdays and Sundays. The cost for parking before 5 p.m. weekdays stays the same. These changes do not apply to private parking facilities and parking restrictions on un-metered streets remain the same.

The free parking program, begun in October, was one of several steps the City took to encourage economic activity in Alexandria in response to the reduced level of patronage in local businesses since the September terrorist attacks and the closing of Reagan National Airport.
