FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact Paula Riley, Executive Director October 23, 2001 Alexandria Economic Development Partnership, 703.739.3820 SBA OPENS OFFICE IN ALEXANDRIA TO ASSIST BUSINESSES IMPACTED BY SEPTEMBER 11 TRAGEDIES On Sept. 21, 2001, the City of Alexandria was declared by the Federal Government as an area eligible for economic injury disaster loans. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has opened an office in Alexandria to assist businesses experiencing economic injury as a result of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 and the lengthy closing of ReaganWashington National Airport.. SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) can help a business meet necessary financial obligations it could have met had the disaster not occurred. EIDL provides relief from economic injury caused directly by the disaster and permits the business to maintain a reasonable working capital position during the period affected by the disaster. EIDL covers uninsured and under insured losses for eligible small businesses unable to pay bills or meet operating expenses. Interest rates are 4 percent for a period up to 30 years with a statutory maximum loan of $1.5 million. An SBA representative is available to meet with businesses on a walk-in basis from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
