Alexandria Police Arrest Bank Robbery Suspect

Early this morning, Alexandria police apprehended a suspect wanted for a recent bank robbery. William C. Reid, a 32-year-old man of no fixed address, is being held by authorities in Prince George’s County on their local charges as well as Alexandria’s outstanding robbery warrant.

Just before midnight, Officer Chris Jones was directing traffic at an accident scene in Old Town when he observed Reid drive by him. Officer Jones got in his cruiser and attempted to stop Reid. Reid increased his speed and a pursuit ensued out of Alexandria from Route 1, onto the Beltway and across the Wilson Bridge. Reid took the Route 210/I-295 exit and lost control of his vehicle along the ramp. He then bailed out and fled into nearby woods.

Other Alexandria officers arrived at the scene and set up a perimeter. Reid attempted to run and Officer Todd Branson of the K-9 Unit ordered him to stop. When Reid continued to run, Officer Branson released his K-9, Swifty, who was able to stop Reid. Alexandria officers apprehended Reid and turned him over to Prince George’s County police. Reid suffered a dog bite and Prince George’s County police took him to a local hospital for treatment.

Reid was wanted for the Monday, September 17, robbery of the Wachovia Bank at 325 South Washington Street. Detectives are also investigating whether Reid is responsible for robbing the same bank on Thursday, September 27.
