Alexandria Police Make an Arrest in the Case of the
Woman who was Attacked, Severely Beaten and Robbed

On Saturday, August 25, police arrested Charles Anthony Gregg, a 32-year-old black male and resident of Alexandria and charged him with Robbery. This suspect is being held at the Adult Detention facility without bond. Police are now looking for a second suspect linked to this case, John Lester Crawley, Gregg’s half-brother, a 23-year-old black male, 5'5", 150 pounds, with an unknown address. Crawley is known to frequent the Temple Hills area of Maryland and the Lynhaven community of Alexandria.

On Tuesday, August 21, the victim, a 48-year-old female, was beaten on the head and face by two black males while walking in the 200 block of East Braddock Road. A witness observed the assault and intervened. The suspects fled and entered a dark colored vehicle, which they used to leave the area. The woman was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital where she was treated for her injuries and admitted. Her condition was considered critical but stable at the time and she remains hospitalized recovering from her injuries.

Several hours after the investigation began, officers stopped the suspect vehicle and transported the driver, Elvin Huggins, Jr., a 33-year-old male and resident of Sterling, Virginia, to police headquarters where he was questioned and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle. Other felony charges are pending. Huggins has been released on a $1,000 bond.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of John Lester Crawley, is asked to call the Criminal Investigations Section at (703) 838-4711. For further details, please contact the Public Information Office. Photo of Crawley is available by e-mail.
