Alexandria Police Arrest Rape Suspect for 1998 Attack on Homeless Woman

On August 14, Alexandria police charged a 19-year-old former Alexandria man with Rape for the 1998 assault of a homeless woman. The suspect, who was 16 at the time of the offense, was arrested by U.S. Marshals in South Hampton, Virginia, on August 13, and transported back to the City the next day.

The attack occurred in the early morning hours of October 10, 1998, in the 200 block of Madison Street. The victim, who was 26 at the time, had been sleeping behind a building when the suspect approached her. He sexually assaulted the victim and then repeatedly stabbed her. She called 911 herself and was transported to Alexandria Hospital where she recovered from her injuries.

Police were not able to identify the suspect until June of this year when physical evidence recovered from the victim was linked to the suspect. A warrant was issued for the suspect on June 15.

Police are not releasing the name of the suspect because he was a juvenile at the time of the offense. He is currently being held at the Alexandria jail without bond.
