CITY OF ALEXANDRIA=S WEB SITE INTERNET ADDRESS
POSTED ON CITY VEHICLES

You=ve heard of the AInformation Super Highway@, a term often given to the Internet. Timely information about City of Alexandria programs and services is just a click away on the City=s web site, http://ci.alexandria.va.us and in a new promotional effort, you may see the address of the City=s web site when traveling down another highway. Next time you observe an Alexandria government vehicle moving along City streets, look at the back of the vehicle for a distinctive new decal proclaiming the URL (internet address) of the City's web site. The City's web site - http://ci.alexandria.va.us - hosts the domains of City departments and courts, DASH Bus, Office of the Voter Registrar, Alexandria Economic Development Partnership, and City museums. The decal=s dark blue, white and gold is color-coordinated to match the City seal.

"We believe that for the City of Alexandria to serve its citizens better and for citizens of Alexandria to be effective participants in their City government, they need easily accessible and current information," said Assistant City Manager Mark Jinks, who oversees the City=s Information Technology efforts. "The web site provides an excellent medium for that information. Placing the internet address on City vehicles is another method of reminding people of our web site and all that is has to offer."

The City of Alexandria=s web site receives more than 90,000 separate visits each month by people who access more than 1,400,000 pages. In addition to information on a variety of City government services and programs, the web site provides detailed meeting dockets and memorandums of the City Council, Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals and Boards of Architectural Review.

The City=s web site also provides on-line services, such as the opportunity to pay taxes and parking fines, reserve library books, apply for employment, and search real estate assessments via the internet. City staff continually adds new and updated information to the web site and the "electronic government" features of the City web site will continue to expand as new services are added allowing citizens to interact with government 24-hours a day, seven days a week, from the convenience of their home or office, or from terminals located in the City=s libraries.
