Alexandria Police Arrest Father of Deceased Child
As a result of today’s medical autopsy and further investigation by detectives, Alexandria Police arrested Dale Corey Smith, Sr., a 32-year-old male and resident of 375 South Reynolds Street, apartment #910. Smith was charged with the murder of his 9-year-old son, Dale Corey Smith II, who was visiting from Golfport, Mississippi.
On Tuesday, June 26, at 12:32 p.m., medics responded to 375 South Reynolds Street for the report of an unconscious child. Medics called police and the victim was transported by ambulance to INOVA Alexandria Hospital. The child remained unresponsive and was pronounced dead at 12:45 p.m.
This was the City’s third homicide of 2001. Dale Smith Sr., is currently being held without bond at the Adult Detention Center.
