Alexandria Police Investigate a Serious Traffic Accident

This morning at 12:43 a.m., Alexandria police responded to the intersection of North Beauregard and Armistead Streets for the report of a serious accident involving a motor vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, a 20-year-old male City resident, suffered massive internal injuries and was flown to the Washington Hospital Center where he remains in critical condition. His passenger, an 18-year-old male and City resident, was taken to INOVA Fairfax Hospital and is considered to be in stable condition.

Initial investigation reveals that the driver was traveling southbound on North Beauregard Street when he veered off the roadway to the right, ran onto the grass and struck a metal traffic light pole. His vehicle, a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer, was totaled.

The southbound lanes of North Beauregard Street between Armistead Street and Quantrell Avenue were closed for approximately five hours while members of the Accident Reconstruction Team conducted their investigation.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed.
