The City of Alexandria, in partnership with community-spirited businesses and non-profit agencies will sponsor the third event in its highly successful Successful Aging series on Saturday, October 14, 2000. Billed as The New Age of Aging: Mind, Body, Spirit, the Expo will be held at the Virginia Theological Seminary, 3737 Seminary Road, Alexandria, VA from 8 am to 4 pm, according to State Senator Patricia S. Ticer, Honorary Event Chair.

This year’s Expo will feature former NASA Astronaut Bernard Harris, Jr., MD, the first African-American to walk in space, as the keynote speaker. Harris most recently served as Senator John Glenn’s doctor and a lead researcher on Glenn’s recent mission, which yielded valuable insight into the aging process.

The Expo will also feature a panel of researchers from the National Institutes of Health who will present recent findings on aging and alternative medicine. Drew Leder, MD, PhD, professor of philosophy at Loyola College and author of Spiritual Passages, will discuss the opportunities for spiritual growth during aging.

The day will also include multiple workshops and a trade fair. Registration of $25 includes continental breakfast and lunch. For information on registration call Grace Lynch at (703)838-0927 or Nicol Duda at (703)845-2961.

Partners of the Expo include The Goodwin House Foundation, The Goodwin House and The Washington House.
