Alexandria Police Identify Victim and Suspect in Fatal Traffic Accident

Alexandria police have identified the deceased passenger and the suspect driver in this morning’s fatal accident on Slaters Lane. The victim is Mark Allen Grimsley, a 22-year-old Annandale man. The driver is Charles A. Taylor, a 31-year-old male resident of 2059 Huntington Avenue in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County.

Earlier today, at 2:45 a.m., Alexandria police responded to the 900 block of Slaters Lane for the report of an accident and discovered the victim deceased at the scene. Initial investigation indicates that the 1997 Honda Prelude was traveling east on Slaters Lane when the driver lost control. The vehicle turned over multiple times before coming to a stop in a parking lot between Powhatan Street and Portner Road.

Mr. Grimsley and Mr. Taylor were the only occupants of the vehicle. Mr. Taylor suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment. He has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated and additional charges are pending the outcome of the investigation. He is being held at the Alexandria Detention Center and is expected to be arraigned today.

Members of the Accident Reconstruction Team anticipate re-opening Slaters Lane within the hour. This morning’s crash is the fourth fatal traffic accident in Alexandria this year.
