City of Alexandria Announces Schedule of Services for
Monday, May 29, in Observance of Memorial Day


City government offices, including the administrative offices of the Alexandria Police Department, will be closed on Monday, May 29, in observance of Memorial Day. Full police patrol and emergency services will be in place during the holiday.

In accordance with Virginia State Law, the Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces, as well as time restrictions in residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits, on Monday, May 29. All other parking regulations will be in effect. Additionally, HOV restrictions on Washington Street and Route 1 will be lifted on Monday, May 29.

City schools will be open Monday, May 29, to make up a snow day.

The Treasury and Revenue Divisions of the Finance Department, which are regularly open on Saturday mornings for payment of property taxes and parking tickets, will be closed on Saturday, May 27, and Monday, May 29.

Residential trash and recycling collection services scheduled for Monday, May 29, will occur on Tuesday, May 30, and collection services regularly scheduled for Tuesday, May 30, will occur on Wednesday, May 31. Residential trash and recycling collection services regularly scheduled for Wednesday, May 31, will occur on Thursday, June 1, and collection services regularly scheduled for Thursday, June 1, will occur on Friday, June 2.

On Monday, May 29, Charles Houston, Cora Kelly, Mount Vernon and Nannie J. Lee recreation centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Chinquapin Recreation Center will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Charles Barrett, Patrick Henry, and William Ramsay recreation centers will be closed on Monday, May 29. However, sites currently hosting after school programs will be open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. for those programs only.

City libraries will be closed on Monday, May 29.

DASH bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule on Monday, May 29.

State offices in Alexandria, including the Circuit, General District, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District courts, the Clerk of Court Office, and the Alexandria Health Department, will be closed on Monday, May 29.
