Alexandria Police Investigate a Hit and Run Fatal Pedestrian Accident


The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a fatal traffic accident which occurred on May 20, at approximately 12:11 p.m. A man was struck by a motor vehicle on Duke Street at the intersection of South Reynolds Street.

The victim, a 39-year-old male City resident, was attempting to cross Duke Street from the north to the south when he was struck by a motorist making a right hand turn from South Reynolds Street onto eastbound Duke Street. That vehicle, a 4-door white 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera with Virginia license plates, was being operated by a 46-year-old female City resident who failed to stop after the accident occurred.

The victim, Seth Weiner, was transported by ambulance to INOVA Fairfax Hospital where he died at 5:14 p.m.

The Accident Reconstruction Team have been assigned to follow-up on this case. The driver of the hit and run vehicle, Victoria Batista, of 523 Bashford Lane, Apartment #1, was later arrested and charged with Felony Hit and Run. The Commonwealth’s Attorney has been notified and will make a determination regarding any further criminal charges once the investigation has been completed.
