Alexandria Police Locate Cab Driver,
Search for Kevin Shifflett’s Killer Continues

Last night investigators with the Alexandria Police Department interviewed a cab driver who had been sought as a potential witness in the investigation of Kevin Shifflett’s homicide. The cab driver confirmed detectives’ belief that the suspect fled from the area in a cab that was seen at a taxi stand at Mount Vernon and East Windsor avenues.

This morning, detectives, with assistance from Prince George’s County and Maryland State police, will search for evidence in a wooded area along the outer loop of the Beltway at the I-295 interchange (exits 2A and 2B). According to the cab driver, the suspect got out of the cab at this location. In addition, detectives will canvass the immediate area as they attempt to locate anyone who may recognize the suspect.

The suspect is described as a black male, 20 to 30 years old, 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, and weighing approximately 150 to 170 pounds. At the time of the attack, the suspect had a light beard. He was last seen wearing a dark blue t-shirt and he may have had a light brown pullover sweater in his possession.

Eight-year-old Kevin Shifflett was stabbed to death on Wednesday, April 19, as he played outside his relatives’ home in the 100 block of East Custis Avenue.

Anyone with information about this suspect is asked to call the Alexandria Police Department at (703) 838-4444 or (703) 838-4711. A $50,000 reward is being offered by local business people and residents for the arrest and conviction of this suspect.
