The City of Alexandria announced today that citizens can now pay certain City taxes and parking tickets with their credit cards over the Internet using the City’s web site at ci.alexandria.va.us. This new service is in place just as the Finance Department prepares to mail City real estate tax bills early next month. The deadline for returning these tax payments is June 15. Using a secure on-line Internet connection, consumers can pay their personal property, business property and real estate taxes, and parking ticket fines. "This is one of many technological enhancements the City is putting in place to make City government more accessible and convenient," Alexandria City Manager Philip Sunderland said. "This service allows people to make payments 24 hours a day, seven days a week." Citizens must log-on to the City’s web site and click on the "Taxes" icon to link instantly to a streamlined payment page that allows credit card payments within minutes. A convenience fee is associated with this service. The City’s Finance Department also is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Citizens also can call 1-888-2PAYTAX to pay by phone using a credit card. In the next few months, citizens can expect to see other technological improvements that will make the City government more accessible, including the launch of the City’s re-designed web site which will be easier to navigate and provide even more information about the Alexandria City government and the services it provides. |
