Alexandria Police and Deputies Serve Up Fun at Red Lobster,
"Cops & Lobsters" to Benefit Special Olympics

Red Lobster, in conjunction with the Alexandria Police Department and Office of the Sheriff, will host "Cops & Lobsters," an annual event in which local law enforcement officers serve as celebrity hosts and waiters during lunch and dinnertime. These efforts, formerly known as "Tip-A-Cop," are part of a nationwide campaign to raise money for Special Olympics.

"Cops & Lobsters" will be held on Friday, April 7, at lunch from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and again at dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Red Lobster restaurant at 555 South Van Dorn Street in Alexandria.

Police officers and deputy sheriffs will collect "donation" tips to benefit the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Virginia Special Olympics. Last year’s event raised more than $3,000 in Alexandria and $1.1 million nationwide in 1999.

"Our officers are looking forward to 'Cops & Lobsters' as a fun way to raise money-- and awareness--for the Special Olympics," says Lieutenant Tim Dickinson, this year’s Special Olympics co-ordinator for the Alexandria Police. "We encourage anyone with a big appetite and a big heart to come join us for a truly special cause."
