Alexandria City Council will hold a community meeting on Wednesday, March 15, at 7:30 p.m., at the Cora Kelly Recreation Center, located at 24 West Reed Avenue, to discuss the redevelopment potential of the Upper Potomac West Area.

The meeting, which is open to the public and includes a public comment period, is part of City Council’s overall community outreach efforts ---- to meet with citizens outside of City Hall to focus on topics of interest to specific neighborhoods in the City.

"We look forward to community dialogue centered on the redevelopment of particular sites in Potomac West," Alexandria Mayor Kerry J. Donley said. "The goal of this community meeting is to build a partnership among the City, the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership, Inc. (AEDP), the neighborhoods, business community and the property owners, to work together to determine what is best for the area."

Among the issues the City Council will discuss are:

Development. Director of Planning and Zoning Sheldon Lynn will discuss development plans for the area north of Glebe Road, including properties on the west side of Mount Vernon Avenue and Route 1.
Economic Partnerships. Paula Riley, executive director of AEDP, will discuss AEDP’s role in the redevelopment of the area, in addition to AEDP’s partnership with the Virginia Tech School of Architecture, designed to help communities create and shape development alternatives.
Community Policing. Police Chief Charles Samarra will present an overview of community policing efforts in the Potomac West area.

Individuals with disabilities who require assistance or special arrangements to participate in the community meeting may call the Office of Citizen Assistance at 838-4800. We request that you provide a 48-hour notice so that the proper arrangements may be made.
