Winter Storm Update

The City of Alexandria is continuing its snow removal efforts. Major City travel routes are open and City crews are continuing to plow the City of Alexandria’s neighborhood streets. Crews are applying a sand and salt mixture to roads this evening to provide additional traction as melting snow begins to freeze as temperatures drop. Motorists are urged to exercise caution.

The City urges residents and property owners to help pedestrians by clearing sidewalks of snow and ice. City code requires that all property owners/occupants clear snow and ice from the public sidewalk that abuts their property within 24 hours of the end of a snow or ice storm. Failure to do so will result in City crews clearing the area and billing the owner/occupant on an overtime basis for the work done.

In accordance with Virginia State Law, the Alexandria Police Department will enforce parking restrictions at metered spaces, as well as time restrictions in residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits, effective 8 a.m. Thursday, January 27.

Residential trash and recycling collection services will be on a regular schedule Thursday, January 27. On Friday, January 28, refuse and recycling crews will provide curbside refuse and recycling services (including alley pickup) for those areas on the Tuesday and Wednesday routes that may have been missed as a result of the snowstorm. Please call 838-6257 if your trash has not been collected.

For more information, visit the City’s web site at ci.alexandria.va.us or call the City’s Snow Hotline at (703) 548-6257.
