Alexandria Police Investigate a Fatal Pedestrian Accident

The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a fatal traffic accident which occurred earlier this evening, at approximately 8:40 p.m. A man was struck by a motor vehicle on Duke Street just west of the I-395 interchange.

The victim, identified as Kamal Zoury, was attempting to cross Duke Street from the south to the north when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle in the right lane. That vehicle, a 2000 Dodge Caravan, was being operated by a 28-year-old male resident of North Carolina. Neither the driver of the minivan nor any of his four passengers was injured.

The victim, a 56-year-old Fairfax County resident, was transported by ambulance by Fairfax County Fire and Rescue to Alexandria Hospital where he died at 11 p.m.

The Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and officers have closed the eastbound lanes of Duke Street while they conduct their investigation. No charges have been filed in this case pending completion of the investigation. Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in this accident.
