City of Alexandria Experiences No Y2K-Related Problems
The City of Alexandria’s Emergency Operations Center has been open since 8 a.m. and is fully operational to respond to any emergencies. Currently, the City has not experienced any problems related to Y2K.

The Center, which will be open until 3 a.m., Saturday, January 1, includes representatives from the following agencies: Fire/EMS, Police, Finance, Transportation and Environmental Services, General Services, Health Department, Information Technology Systems, Code Enforcement and Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities. Other agencies include Washington Gas, the Red Cross and Radio Amateur Communications Emergency Services (RACES).

City officials are continuing to monitor events throughout the world as the millennium approaches.

First Night Alexandria Activities, which began at 6:00 p.m., are underway and have no reported problems. An estimated 7,000 tickets have been sold for First Night events.
