City of Alexandria Announces Schedule of Services for New Year's Holidays
City government offices, including the administrative offices of the Alexandria Police Department, will be closed for the New Year's holidays on Friday, December 31 and Saturday, January 1. Full police patrol and emergency services will be in place during these days.
In accordance with Virginia State Law, the Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces, as well as time restrictions in residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits, on Friday, December 31 and Saturday, January 1. All other parking regulations will be in effect. Additionally, HOV restrictions on Washington Street and Route 1 will be lifted on Friday, December 31.
The Treasury and Revenue Divisions of the Finance Department, which are regularly open on Saturday mornings for payment of property taxes and parking tickets, will be closed on Friday, December 31 and Saturday, January 1.
City schools, which closed on Monday, December 20, will reopen on Monday, January 3.
Residential trash and recycling collection services will not be affected by the New Year's holidays.
On Friday, December 31, Charles Barrett, Charles Houston, Cora Kelly, Patrick Henry, Mount Vernon, Nannie J. Lee and William Ramsay recreation centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Chinquapin Park Recreation Center will be open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. All recreation centers will be closed on Saturday, January 1.
City libraries will be closed Friday, December 31; Saturday, January 1; and Sunday, January 2.
On Friday, December 31, DASH will operate on a Saturday schedule, and there will be no DASH bus service on Saturday, January 1.
State offices in Alexandria, including the Circuit, General District, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District courts, the Clerk of Court Office and the Alexandria Health Department, will be closed on Friday, December 31 and Monday, January 3.
