City of Alexandria Announces Schedule of Services for Christmas
City government offices, including the administrative offices of the Alexandria Police Department, will be closed for the Christmas holidays on Thursday, December 23; Friday, December 24; and Saturday, December 25. Full police patrol and emergency services will be in place during these days.
In accordance with Virginia State Law, the Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces, as well as time restrictions in residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits, on Thursday, December 23; Friday, December 24; and Saturday, December 25. All other parking regulations will be in effect. Additionally, HOV restrictions on Washington Street and Route 1 will be lifted on Thursday, December 23, and Friday, December 24.
The Treasury and Revenue Divisions of the Finance Department, which are regularly open on Saturday mornings for payment of property taxes and parking tickets, will be closed on Thursday, December 23; Friday, December 24; and Saturday, December 25.
City schools will be closed from Monday, December 20, through Friday, December 31. Students return to school on Monday, January 3.
There will be regular residential trash and recycling collection services on Thursday, December 23.
On Thursday, December 23, Charles Barrett, Charles Houston, Cora Kelly, Patrick Henry, Mount Vernon, Nannie J. Lee and William Ramsay recreation centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Chinquapin Park Recreation Center will be open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. All recreation centers will be closed on Friday, December 24 and Saturday, December 25.
City libraries will be closed from Thursday, December 23, through Sunday, December 26.
On Friday, December 24, DASH will operate on a Saturday schedule with all bus service ending by 8 p.m. There will be no DASH bus service on Saturday, December 25.
State offices in Alexandria, including the Circuit, General District, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District courts, the Clerk of Court Office and the Alexandria Health Department, will close at noon on Thursday, December 23, and will reopen on Monday, December 27.
