Apartment Fire at 300 Wythe Street on 12-4-99
The Fire Department responded to a senior high-rise apartment building at 300 Wythe Street on Saturday afternoon at 1:13 p.m. for a fire in the structure. The first arriving units reported moderate smoke coming from apartment #213. The building's sprinkler system put a quick stop to the fire which caused damage to the bedroom. There was also collateral damage from smoke and water to other areas of the first and second floors.
Improperly discarded smoking materials has been determined to be the cause of the fire. The resident relocated to family members who live in the City after the unit was condemned due to water damage and other code issues. There were no injuries and damage is estimated at $15,000.
