WNBA Player Chamique Holdsclaw Supports Fifth Annual Walk to Fight Breast Cancer
WNBA Mystics Player Chamique Holdsclaw will be appearing at Alexandria's Fifth Annual Walk to Fight Breast Cancer, which will be held Saturday, October 23, at 9 a.m., at the Cameron Run Regional Park in Alexandria. Ms. Holdsclaw will be joined by WTTG-TV Fox 5 News Anchor Jan Smith, honorary co-chair for the event, in addition to Alexandria City Manager Vola Lawson, State Senator Patricia Ticer and Holly Hoffman Nolting, president of Hoffman Management, Inc.
Proceeds from the Walk will go to the Alexandria Breast Cancer Walk Fund, which provides free mammograms for Alexandria women who cannot afford them. All Walk participants are asked to collect pledges for the fund. Top pledge collectors will be eligible for prizes. To date, funds raised have provided mammograms for more than 350 women, in addition to educational materials for more than 3,500 women. The Walk to Fight Breast Cancer was initiated in 1995 by City Manager Vola Lawson's Breast Cancer Awareness Committee and is sponsored by the Office of the City Manager, the Office on Women, the Alexandria Commission for Women, the Alexandria Commission on Aging, the Alexandria Health Department, the Alexandria Volunteer Bureau, the Agency on Aging and the Inova Alexandria Hospital Foundation.
The Walk registration fee is $15 for adults and $10 for children, and includes a commemorative t-shirt. Interested participants can download registration forms and pledge sheets, as well as find additional information about the Walk on the City's web page at ci.alexandria.va.us.
