City of Alexandria Announces Schedule of Government Services for
Monday, October 11, in Observance of Columbus Day



City government offices, including the administrative offices of the Alexandria Police Department, will be closed on Monday, October 11, in observance of Columbus Day. Full police patrol and emergency services will be in place during the holiday.

In accordance with Virginia State Law, the Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces, as well as time restrictions in residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits, on Monday, October 11. All other parking regulations will be in effect. Additionally, HOV restrictions on Washington Street and Route 1 will be lifted on Monday, October 11.

The Treasury and Revenue Divisions of the Finance Department, which are regularly open on Saturday mornings for
payment of property taxes and parking tickets, will be closed on Saturday, October 9, and Monday, October 11.

Residential trash and recycling collection services scheduled for Monday, October 11, will occur on Tuesday, October 12, and collection services regularly scheduled for Tuesday, October 12, will occur on Wednesday, October 13. Residential trash and recycling collection services regularly scheduled for Wednesday, October 13, will occur on Thursday, October 14, and collection services regularly scheduled for Thursday, October 14, will occur on Friday, October 15.

City schools will be closed on Monday, October 11.

On Monday, October 11, Charles Houston, Cora Kelly, Mount Vernon and Nannie J. Lee recreation centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Chinquapin Park Recreation Center will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Charles Barrett, Patrick Henry, and William Ramsay recreation centers will be closed.

City libraries will be closed on Monday, October 11.

DASH bus service will operate on a Saturday schedule on Monday, October 11.

State offices in Alexandria, including the Circuit, General District, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District courts, the Clerk of Court Office and the Alexandria Health Department, will be closed on Monday, October 11.
