Kitchen Fire at Friendly's Restaurant on South Van Dorn Street
The Alexandria Fire Department responded to a kitchen fire at Friendly's Restaurant, 410 South Van Dorn Street, on Wednesday morning at 6:39 a.m.. The two-alarm fire caused $100,000 damage to the establishment, including severe damage to the duct/extinguishment system, which will probably need to be replaced. There were no injuries in the fire. The cause was accidental: Grease in the deep fryer caught fire and then spread into the duct work. The restaurant must remain closed until repairs are made and it passes inspections by Code Enforcement and the Health Department.
