Alexandria Police Civilian Employee is Arrested for Arson

This morning, at approximately 12:15 a.m., Terrell Johnson, a 27-year-old black female of 4580 Airlie Way, Annandale, Virginia, and part-time civilian employee of the Information Services Section of the Department since October 1994, was arrested and charged with Arson -- the Burning of a Public Building that was Occupied.

On September 26, at approximately 3:52 a.m., an interior fire alarm was activated within the Police Department. Upon investigation, police staff discovered water and smoke coming from a rear elevator on the first floor.

Fire personnel responded and discovered that the building's second floor sprinkler system had been activated and that one of the initial fires began in a second floor hallway. A second fire, which extinguished itself, was located in a third floor hallway of the building. Emergency communications staff remained within the building and police and fire services continued throughout the City without interruption.

Police detectives and fire personnel have worked jointly on this case and successfully concluded their investigation with Johnson's arrest. Johnson is being held without bond at the Alexandria Detention Center. She is scheduled to be arraigned, via video monitor, in General District Court this morning.
