Alexandria Police Seek Suspect in Construction Site Thefts

The Alexandria Police Department has obtained an arrest warrant for Donald Leon Jones for Grand Larceny in connection with a series of thefts from construction sites.

Since May, more than 30 commercial trucks and vans have been broken into or stolen from construction sites in Alexandria. The vehicles, often left unlocked and with keys inside, contain thousands of dollars worth of construction tools and equipment. When the vehicles are recovered, the tools are missing. Similar offenses have been reported in Arlington and Fairfax counties.

Through investigation, police developed Donald Leon Jones as a suspect in the recent theft of tools in Old Town. On Friday, August 20, Jones stole a hammer drill from the back of a 1997 Ford van in the 600 block of Tivoli Passage Alley. Police believe he is involved in dozens of related vehicle thefts and break-ins at construction sites.

Jones is a 37-year-old black male, five feet nine inches tall and 165 pounds. His last known address is 3214 Brinkley Road, #304, in Temple Hills, Maryland. Anyone with information about Jones or these cases is asked to call the Criminal Investigations Section at (703) 838-4711 or Alexandria Crime Solvers at (703) 838-4858. Crime Solvers is offering a reward of up to $1000 to anyone providing information that leads to the suspect's arrest.

Note: A photo of the suspect is available at the front desk of police headquarters.
