Alexandria Police Identify Homicide Victim, Detectives Seek Information About Slain Man

Today, at approximately 3:42 a.m., Alexandria police responded to a residence in the 300 block of LaVerne Avenue for the report of a deceased person. Police discovered the victim deceased inside his residence. Initial investigation indicates that the victim was stabbed to death.

The victim has been identified as Ray Heidebrecht, a 39-year-old male City resident. Mr. Heidebrecht worked as a computer specialist at Henderson Hall in Arlington.

The victim's vehicle, a maroon 1999 Isuzu Rodeo, is missing from the scene and is believed to have been stolen. The sports utility vehicle bears Virginia license plate YTG 7844. Anyone observing this vehicle is asked to immediately notify police.

Officers and detectives canvassed the neighborhood for potential witnesses. A motive for the homicide remains under investigation.

Anyone with information about Ray Heidebrecht's whereabouts on Saturday, August 14, or Sunday, August 15, is asked to contact the Alexandria Police Department at (703) 838-4444 or Crime Solvers at (800) 673-2777. Crime Solvers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest or indictment in this case.
