Playground Fire at 607 Notabene Drive
Firefighters responded to a report of an outside fire late Saturday evening and found a playground fully involved in fire in the rear of the apartment building located at 607 Notabene Drive at 10:47 p.m.

The intensity of the fire did damage to the rear of both 607 and 613 Notabene Drive. Damage included the melting of window blinds, cracking of several windows on both buildings, the destruction of the playground area and loss of phone service due to damaged phone lines. Additionally, the fire burned through a power line. This caused an interruption of service to four buildings while VEPCO worked to repair the damaged power line.

Quick fire suppression operations stopped any extension of fire to the dwellings. There were no injuries or displacements but due to the smoke, evacuation of a few buildings took place and doors were forced while firefighters conducted search and welfare checks. Two juveniles have been questioned. Damage is estimated at $10,000.
