Alexandria Police Arrest Homicide Suspect

On Monday, July 19, Alexandria Police arrested Thomas Ashby in Baltimore for a 1998 homicide. Ashby, a 20-year-old black male of no fixed address, is charged with the June 21, 1998, stabbing death of Gregory L. Harris, a 19-year-old male City resident, at the intersection of East Reed and Commonwealth Avenues.

Detectives in the Criminal Investigations Section identified Ashby as the assailant and on September 16, 1998, a warrant was issued charging him with Homicide. Ashby remained a fugitive until last week when he turned himself in to authorities in Baltimore. Ashby was held at the Baltimore City Jail since Tuesday, July 13, and after waiving extradition, he was taken into custody by Alexandria detectives and transported back to the City.

Ashby, a former City resident, has been charged with Homicide and is being held without bond at the Alexandria Detention Center.
