City of Alexandria Announces Schedule of Government Services for
Monday, July 5, in Observance of Independence Day


City government offices, including the administrative offices of the Alexandria Police Department, will be closed on Monday, July 5, in observance of Independence Day. Full police patrol and emergency services will be in place during the holiday.

In accordance with Virginia State Law, the Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces, as well as time restrictions in residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits, on Monday, July 5. All other parking regulations will be in effect. Additionally, HOV restrictions on Washington Street and Route 1 will be lifted on Monday, July 5.

The Treasury and Revenue Divisions of the Finance Department, which are regularly open on Saturday mornings for payment of property taxes and parking tickets, will be closed on Saturday, July 3, and Monday, July 5.

Residential trash and recycling collection services scheduled for Monday, July 5, will occur on Tuesday, July 6, and collection services regularly scheduled for Tuesday, July 6, will occur on Wednesday, July 7. Residential trash and recycling collection services regularly scheduled for Wednesday, July 7, will occur on Thursday, July 8, and collection services regularly scheduled for Thursday, July 8, will occur on Friday, July 9.

On Sunday, July 4, all recreation centers will be closed, except for Chinquapin Park Recreation Center, which will be open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Monday, July 5, Charles Houston, Cora Kelly, and Mount Vernon recreation centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Chinquapin Park Recreation Center will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Charles Barrett, Nannie J. Lee, Patrick Henry, and William Ramsay recreation centers will be closed on Monday, July 5.

City libraries will be closed on Sunday, July 4, and Monday, July 5.

State offices in Alexandria, including the Circuit, General District, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District courts, the Clerk of Court Office and the Alexandria Health Department, will be closed on Monday, July 5.
