City of Alexandria Announces Schedule of City Government Services for
Monday, May 31, in Observance of Memorial Day
City government offices, including the administrative offices of the Alexandria Police Department, will be closed on Monday, May 31, in observance of Memorial Day. Full police patrol and emergency services will be in place during the holiday.
In accordance with Virginia State Law, the Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces, as well as time restrictions in residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits, on Monday, May 31. All other parking regulations will be in effect. Additionally, HOV restrictions on Washington Street and Route 1 will be lifted on Monday, May 31.
The Treasury and Revenue Divisions of the Finance Department, which are regularly open on Saturday mornings for payment of property taxes and parking tickets, will be closed on Saturday, May 29, and Monday, May 31.
Residential trash and recycling collection services scheduled for Monday, May 31, will occur on Tuesday, June 1, and collection services regularly scheduled for Tuesday, June 1, will occur on Wednesday, June 2. Residential trash and recycling collection services regularly scheduled for Wednesday, June 2, will occur on Thursday, June 3, and collection services regularly scheduled for Thursday, June 3, will occur on Friday, June 4.
City schools will be closed on Monday, May 31.
On Monday, May 31, Charles Houston, Cora Kelly, and Mount Vernon Recreation Centers will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Chinquapin Recreation Center will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Charles Barrett, Nannie J. Lee, Patrick Henry, and William Ramsay Recreation Centers will be closed on Monday, May 31.
City libraries will be closed on Monday, May 31.
DASH bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule on Monday, May 31.
State offices in Alexandria, including the Circuit, General District, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Courts, the Clerk of Court Office, and the Alexandria Health Department, will be closed on Monday, May 31.
