Alexandria Police Identify the Mother of Abandoned Baby

Today, Alexandria detectives questioned a 25-year-old female City resident regarding the circumstances surrounding the death and abandonment of a newborn female baby. The body of an abandoned baby was discovered at 9:34 p.m., on Friday, March 5, outside an apartment in the 4600 block of Seminary Road.

Last night detectives received a telephone tip from an individual who, after seeing extensive media coverage about this case, revealed the identify and whereabouts of the baby's mother. Detectives in the Criminal Investigations Section located the mother earlier today and brought her to police headquarters for further questioning.

Commonwealth's Attorney S. Randolph Sengel has been consulted and at this time no criminal charges have been placed. Detectives are waiting for the toxicology results from the autopsy which was performed soon after the initial investigation began.
