Alexandria City Manager Appoints Angelita Plemmer as Assistant City Manager
Alexandria City Manager Vola Lawson recently announced the appointment of Angelita Plemmer as Assistant City Manager. In her new position, Ms. Plemmer will serve as City spokesperson and media liaison, as well as co-ordinator of the City's Annual Report. She will join the City Manager's Office on Monday, March 15.
"Angelita Plemmer has worked extensively with the media, citizens and local government officials, both as a reporter and as a public information officer," said City Manager Lawson. "Her strong communication skills will be a real asset to the City."
In her most recent position as the Public Information Officer for the City of Roanoke, which she has held since 1997, Ms. Plemmer has been the City's spokesperson and key contact for the news media. She also oversaw a significant portion of the City of Roanoke's cable television productions.
Before becoming active in municipal government, Ms. Plemmer worked as a reporter for the Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk from 1992 to 1997. Her coverage of public safety and criminal justice issues in Portsmouth and Chesapeake earned her an award in 1997 from the Hampton Roads Black Media Professionals. During her tenure at the Virginian-Pilot, Ms. Plemmer received a fellowship from the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation and worked at the Dallas Morning News, covering youth violence and urban and public health issues.
Ms. Plemmer holds a bachelor of arts degree in rhetoric and communication studies from the University of Virginia, and a master of science degree in journalism from Columbia University. She is a member of 3CMA, the Blue Ridge Public Relations Society, and the National Association of Black Journalists.
