Finalists Announced for the 1999 Alexandria Technology Achievement Award
Alexandria, Virginia. Five finalists have been announced for the 1999 Alexandria Technology Achievement Award. The 1999 finalists are Animators at Law, Inc., Cyveillance, Commonwealth Scientific Corporation, Dimensions International, and YMCA of Alexandria. These companies contribute to Alexandria's success story as a great place for technology companies to do business. The five finalists represent the best in the application and utilization of technology in the City of Alexandria. Each nomination was evaluated on the basis of the technological achievement and/or impact on business, industry, and/or the City of Alexandria. One of the five finalists will be presented with the 1999 Alexandria Technology Achievement Award at the Technology Achievement Week Award luncheon, March 12, 1999.
The finalists represent an impressive cross section of companies in which technology has been applied in new and creative ways. The 1999 finalists include:
Animators at Law, Inc. designs computer animated presentations for use in judicial settings. Animators at Law, Inc. combines visual demonstration with verbal presentations, enabling attorneys to graphically present a complex scene or scenario, such as a surgical procedure, traffic accident or crime scene, to a judge and jury.
Cyveillance protects companies that own well-known brands against the devaluation and loss of market share due to misuse on the Internet. Cyveillance uses proprietary technology and best practice processes to search the Internet for potentially damaging information. The unique ability to process, filter and prioritize pages on the Internet based on the greatest business impact to the client is known as Intelligent Internet Surveillance.
Commonwealth Scientific Corporation has developed End-Hall Ion Beam technology and process expertise for the coating of magnetic recording media (disks) that are utilized in the manufacture of hard disk drives used in the personal computer industry.
Dimensions International, Inc. developed Flight Explorer, a PC-based Internet application for use by the airline industry to monitor and track flights. This low-cost PC-based system replaces a $150,000 display system, which used specialized computer displays and satellites.
Alexandria YMCA installed the Fitlynx Interactive Fitness Network which includes a Management Station, Workout Information Center, and a Training Partner. The system, which combines personalized programs, touch screen monitors with individual progress, and coaching/feedback during workouts, keeps a cumulative record of the member during the entire workout.
Alexandria Technology Achievement Week is an effort between the City of Alexandria, the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership, Inc. and the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce to highlight the City's technology business sector.
