Alexandria's 26th Annual Martin Luther King Memorial Features Paul Berry
Paul Berry, News 7 (WJLA-TV) anchor, will deliver the keynote address at the City of Alexandria's 26th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Service. The Memorial Service will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1427 West Braddock Road, Alexandria, Virginia, on Friday, January 15, at 7:30 p.m. The program will include a procession of faiths, which demonstrates unequivocal interfaith support for Dr. King's vision of an America which can rise above racism. The service is free and open to the public.
Paul Berry has had more than two decades of service to WJLA-TV. Over the years, Mr. Berry has been recognized countless times for his relentless work in and commitment to the community. He is a recipient of the Humanitarian Award from the National Martin Luther King, Jr. Student Leadership Conference in recognition of his long record of community involvement, particularly as a role model for Washington area youth.
Mr. Berry has also been awarded the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Ted Yates Award, which is given to the individual who has demonstrated outstanding professional and person qualities in their contribution to Washington television news and public affairs. He has also received community service awards from the National Capital Optimist Club, the Associated Press Chesapeake Broadcasters Award. In 1994, Mr. Berry was voted into the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences "Silver Circle" in recognition of his 25 years of contributions to Washington television. He has been recognized by two District of Columbia Mayors with "Paul Berry Day in the District."
Mr. Berry is a member of several local civic, charitable and professional organizations including the D.C. Special Olympics; Choral Arts Society; Make A Wish Foundation; Board of Directors, The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Washington Chapter and National Trustee; Charlin Jazz Society; National Rehabilitation Hospital Advisory Board; Board of Directors, The Neediest Kids, Inc.; Board of Director, Leukemia Society; and the Board of Directors, Cancer Research Foundation of America.
