The Alexandria Office on Women Needs Caring Women and Men toVvolunteer with its Domestic Violence Program (DVP).
The DVP operates the City's Battered Women's Shelter, which provides emergency housing to battered women and their children. Volunteers receive extensive training and support. Volunteers assist in several areas:
Provide hotline coverage and crisis counseling in the battered women's shelter;
Perform community education presentations on domestic violence issues;
Work with children in a group setting; and
Provide court advocacy for victims of domestic violence.
Training starts in September, however, you must call by August 30 to enroll and be interviewed. A one year commitment is required. Interested individuals should contact Lorri Mitchell at 703-838-4911.
