Alexandria Slates Successful Aging Expo for May; Willard Scott, Financial Planner Ric Edelman Among Speakers
Alexandria, VA. (February 13, 1998) - The City of Alexandria, in partnership with area businesses and nonprofit organizations, will sponsor a Successful Aging Expo on Saturday, May 9, 1998 at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Conference Center, 625 First Street, Alexandria.

The all-day conference and trade show will focus on wellness and positive models for successful aging for area seniors and near-seniors. Expo workshops offered range from the self-development issues of mind/body wellness, fitness after fifty, and Tai Chi, to nuts-and-bolts information on job opportunities and

retirement housing. Speakers include nationally known experts such as:

NBC Today Show media personality and native Alexandrian Willard Scott, chair of the National Healthy Aging Campaign.
Ric Edelman, financial planner and best-selling author of "The Truth About Money" and host of the WMAL radio show "Your Money Matters."
Dr. Gene Cohen, MD, PhD, director of the Center on Aging, Health and Humanities at George Washington University, and a known expert on creativity during aging.
Robert Blancato, former executive director of the White House Conference on Aging and a noted expert on aging, will speak about second careers.
Dr. Michael Pratt, MD, of the federal Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, who will speak about new research linking exercise with independence and high functioning throughout the later years.
The day's program begins at 8 a.m. and concludes at 3 p.m. Registration for the entire day's program is $20 per person including lunch, with a limited number of scholarships available. To register, call the Alexandria Agency on Aging at 703/838-0920.


Throughout the day, attendees can peruse a free Expo trade show featuring numerous products, services and community information for seniors, their families and geriatric professionals. WWDC-1260AM, an Expo sponsor, will broadcast from the event.
