City of Alexandria Announces Modified Schedule of Services
for the Christmas and New Year's Holidays.
City government offices, including the administrative offices of the Alexandria Police Department, will be closed on Tuesday, December 24, and Wednesday, December 25, in observance of the Christmas Holiday, and Wednesday, January 1, in observance of New Year's Day. Full police patrol and emergency services will be in place during these holidays.
The Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces, as well as time restrictions in residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits, on Tuesday, December 24, Wednesday, December 25, and Wednesday, January 1. All other parking regulations will be in effect. Additionally, HOV restrictions on Route 1 and Washington Street will be lifted on Tuesday, December 24, Wednesday, December 25, and Wednesday, January 1.
All City Recreation Centers will be closed on Wednesday, December 25, and Wednesday, January 1. On Tuesday, December 24, all centers will close at 1:00 p.m., except for Chinquapin Park Recreation Center which will be closed all day. All Recreation Centers will close at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31. All After-School Centers will be closed from Monday, December 23, through Friday, January 3.
City Libraries will be closed on Tuesday, December 24, Wednesday, December 25, and Wednesday, January 1. Additionally, all libraries will close at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31.
Residential trash removal and recycling collection scheduled for Tuesday, December 24, will take place as scheduled. Residential trash removal and recycling collection scheduled for Wednesday, December 25, will occur on Thursday, December 26, and removal regularly scheduled for Thursday, December 26, will occur on Friday, December 27. Removal scheduled for Wednesday, January 1, will occur on Thursday, January 2, and removal regularly scheduled for Thursday, January 2, will occur on Friday, January 3.
DASH bus service on Tuesday, December 24, will end at 7:00 p.m., and riders are advised to call DASH for exact route times. There is no DASH service on Wednesday, December 25, and Wednesday, January 1. On Tuesday, December 31, DASH will operate on a regular weekday schedule. DASH will also run free buses on a continuous loop throughout the First Night Alexandria festival in Old Town.
State offices in Alexandria, including the Circuit, General District, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts, and the Clerk of Court Office will be closed on Tuesday, December 24, Wednesday, December 25, and Wednesday, January 1.
