Army National Guard Unit to Mark Earth Day 1996 with Stream Clean-Project at Four Mile Run Park in Alexandria
Volunteers from the Army National Guard's Environmental Programs Directorate in Arlington, Va., will mark Earth Day 1996 with a stream clean-up effort beginning at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 22, at Four Mile Run Park in Alexandria.

An estimated 100 to 150 volunteers will scour the stream bed and nearby wetlands areas and remove litter and debris that has accumulated at the mouth of Four Mile Run. City of Alexandria Recreation Department
crews will dispose of the litter.


Earlier in the day, Col. Philip Spence, Chief of Staff, Army National Guard, will lead an Earth Day ceremony at 1 p.m. at the Army National
Guard Readiness Center, 111 South George Mason Drive, Arlington. The event will be hosted by the Environment al Programs Directorate, and other speakers will include Barry Robinson, Director, Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities; Col. William Crocker, Director of Installations, Logistics and Environment, Army National Guard; Dr. Marc Imlay, Natural and Cultural Resource Manager for the Environmental Programs Directorate; and LTC Steven de Kramer, Senior Environmental Staff
Officer for the Environmental Programs Directorate.


Arlington Hall, the Army National Guard's "Readiness Center," is home to more than 900 military and civilian personnel. It houses nine directorates that support Army National Guard installations in the 50 states, three territories, and the District of Columbia.
